Director Anil Barnes serves on Brighton and Hove City Council’s independent Conservation Advisory Group. As a practice we have extensive experience of historic buildings. These have often been Listed Grade II and II* but also include non-listed buildings which may benefit from an understanding of historical styles, materials and details. Restoration of Worley Drinking Fountain, a quatrefoil granite fountain bowl. This is an artefact of high architectural and historical significance, designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1874. Rescued from a dilapidated private garden, the project involved relocation to a commercial development site in St Abans and integration of the fountain into a new landscaped enclosure including purpose made seating and lighting. This project was undertaken whilst Anil Barnes was employed at Fitzroy Robinson LLP.
Fitting out and conversion of 1862 former Turkish Baths to a yoga and treatment centre. Conservation area. Architects: Indigo Design.
Quinquennial Surveys to the Downing Street facade of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Whitehall; Architect Sir George Gilbert Scott; built 1858-87; Listed Grade I. This project was undertaken whilst Anil Barnes was employed at Feilden and Mawson LLP.

Restoration of the front facade of a 16C former merchants house at High Street, Lavenham. This was a project by Kay Pilsbury Architects and was designed whilst Anil Barnes was an employee of that practice.

Since 1947 a list has been maintained of buildings which may be of Architectural cultural or historic interest in order to protect against inappropriate development. The list is maintained by Historic England and is freely available. The majority are listed Grade II.

Conservation involves appraisal of the significance of heritage assets following historical research and site investigation. Restoration can involve a combination of historical research, site investigation and working with suitably skilled trades. Design proposals often entail a well structured written justification before work can take place.
